iPhone SE: 2 Reasons to Buy & 3 Reasons Not To

iPhone SE is an intriguing candidate for those of you who want an iPhone without a huge screen. While it’s a tempting buy, there are also some reasons to avoid picking one up right now.

If you aren’t enamored with Apple’s stable of big screen iPhones (a list that includes the company’s iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X), you have a few options at your disposal.
You could go with the iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c, but we don’t recommend going that route for various reasons.
You might opt for the iPhone 5s, a 4-inch device that Apple upgraded to iOS 11, but one that will probably lose iOS support in 2018.
You could also go with a cheap Android device if you aren’t married to the iPhone. There are a ton of excellent budget Android phones out there on the market right now.
Or, you could stay in-house and snag Apple’s iPhone SE, the company’s 4-inch iPhone from early 2016. The iPhone SE is still one of the top small screen phones on the market and it should be on your short list if you can’t handle having a large-sized smartphone in your pocket.
Before you commit to the iPhone SE (or another small screen device) make sure you take a look at our list of reasons to hold off from buying the device.
Some of you will likely benefit from waiting a few more days or perhaps even a few more weeks before buying your next device.

The iPhone SE is Great & Getting Better

The iPhone SE is Great & Getting Better
Let's start with a few reasons to strongly consider making the iPhone SE your next device.
If you're in the market for a smaller iPhone, the iPhone SE is the iPhone you want to buy. Here's why.
It's a lot more powerful than the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5. It comes equipped with better cameras, a faster processor, and more RAM. The iPhone SE is also better equipped for the future.
The iPhone 5 didn't get iOS 11. It won't get any more bug fixes or security updates either. It also didn't get the new emojis from Apple's iOS 11.1 update or Apple Pay Cash from iOS 11.2.
Nothing is confirmed, but iOS 11 is probably the final operating change for the iPhone 5s. Apple typically cuts support after four full years.
The iPhone SE should get a few more years of software support. At the very least we expect it to get iOS 12 and new emojis, but there's a very good chance it gets iOS 13 as well.
So if you're looking to get a ton of mileage out of your next phone, the iPhone SE is the way to go. Better hardware and better software support is a winning combo.
