Blogwalking, a popular term among the Malaysian, Indonesian, and Philippines bloggers but a rather obscure term in other parts of the world. What is it actually?
What is blog-walking?
Blogwalking is a technique to increase blog traffic by visiting other blogs and leave your marks there. The other blogger is then expected to reciprocate by visiting your blog.

How to do blogwalking?
The starting point can be your own blog. Look at the comments. Commenter that have their own blogs are likely to leave their blog URL in the website details.

You can click on the links and visit their blogs. Some would be auto-blogs without any personal touch. You can safely ignore those and move to next blog. Browse around the blog and read the postings.
Then, to let the person know that you have visited, leave your mark there. If there is a shoutbox, just say something like “Blogwalking here. Please also visit my blog www.alfanhendro.com”.
Otherwise, look for comment box for articles and leave relevant comments. In fact, even if the site has shoutbox, there is no harm in leaving relevant comments for postings. Make sure the comment is relevant and useful addition to the discussion. Also make sure to put your URL in the website field, not as signature to the comment.
Benefits of blog walking
Generally, most bloggers are interested to know if people like their blogs, and appreciate your visit. They are likely to do a visit to your blog either out of curiosity or just as a courtesy. Either way, this will bring you some traffics, probably with some ads revenue, and improve your Alexa ranking.

The links you left behind will also be picked up by search engine crawlers, which means of additional backlinks to your site.
What else do I need to know about blogwalking?
Now, if during your blogwalk you find some interesting postings, there is no harm you link to the postings in your next article. If you really like the blogs, you can link to them in your blogroll. They will appreciate that and will probably also do the same for your blog.

Some blogwalkers like to click ads on walked-blog, and make sure you know it, and expect you to do the same. While it does not seem to be against the policy of ads network like Nuffnang, kliksaya, kumpulblogger or other ppc ads (as long as you don’t blatantly ask for the click), I personally finds it unethical. The clicks cost advertisers money, and if you click on ads just for the sake of clicking, it is akin to cheating the advertisers.
